The LETSHUOER S08 was kindly provided free of charge in exchange for an honest review. I didn’t receive monetary or any other kind of compensation and I don’t use affiliate links. The price of S08 is $99 and you can buy it from LETSHUOER online shop.

LETSHUOER S08

The LETSHUOER S08 is an affordable set of earphones that feature a dual voice coil with a custom 13mm planar magnetic driver. The S08 might be affordable but it is not lacking in innovative features.

The S08 utilizes a nanoscopic magnetron sputtering process on its planar driver that sputters the copper material onto the substrate. This process yields high stability and long lifespan while it also enhances the resolution of high frequencies.

The nanoscopic magnetron sputtering technology coats the diaphragm with a layer of voice coil in addition to the conventional drivers’ single layer voice coil circuit. This procedure effectively makes the driver diaphragm a dual-layer coil circuit with benefits like increased diaphragm vibration control and reduced resonance frequency.

Additionally, a PTR elastic film surrounds the edge of the diaphragm’s voice coil, which makes the diaphragm perform with greater extensibility and stability.

Appearance, wearing comfort and build quality

The outer design of the S08 is based on the “S-0-8” pattern, making it look minimalistically simple and unique. The metal ear-shells are made from a lightweight aluminum alloy that is smoothly finished and is available in black and silver versions. The S08 is well made and has a premium feeling, much better than someone would expect for the price.

The ear-shells of the S08 are lightweight and have an oval shape that needs some careful adjustment in order to get the right fit. You have to place them in your ears and then gently push them towards the inner surface to get an angled alignment and let them snap under your upper ear fin. This way you get a very comfortable and stable fit but people with smaller ears might struggle to find the perfect position. When properly fitted, the S08 isolates well despite its vented design.

Modular cable

Cable and accessories

Surprisingly for a $99 earphone, the S08 comes fitted with a 2-pin detachable cable with modular 4.4mm and 3.5mm plugs. It is a well made, four core silver-plated copper cable that is lightweight and tangle resistant with very low microphonic noise.

The package also includes a rounded plastic carrying case with a screw lid and two sets of silicone ear-tips in three sizes each.

Listening impressions

With 26Ω of impedance and 105dB of sensitivity, the S08 is easy to drive and at the same time quite immune to source noise. While you can use them straight out or your phone’s 3.5mm jack (if it has one), I strongly recommend a decent USB DAC dongle like the LETSHUOER DT03 or the FiiO KA15.

The LETSHUOER S08 has a mostly balanced sound profile with good sub-bass extension, mildly emphasized bass, not too recessed mid-range and a smooth yet vibrant treble. The S08 is a warm sounding set of earphones with a pleasant character that you can listen to for hours without getting fatigued.

The bass reaches deep enough and has plenty of kick and rumble to sound satisfying with popular electronic tunes. There is an undeniable emphasis towards the mid-bass, however it is not that intense to intrude into the mids and exclude listening to classical music as long as you are prepared to sacrifice some tonal accuracy.

The textures are surprisingly thick and visceral, the bass can also sound dynamic but not very impactful while at the same time it is technically competitive. It is clear and well defined enough while it has excellent planar speed and timing with very satisfying control and layering.

More listening impressions

The mid-range is quite balanced, not too recessed or prominent in the upper mid-range portion. The voices appear as flat in the mix and the instruments are reproduced with very good tonal accuracy. The timbre is surprisingly natural and the textures are lush and weighty.. The S08 is melodic and expressive, colorful, harmonious and musical. The technical performance is also competitive with satisfying resolution and clarity.

The treble is laid back and polite but not too dark or slow. It has a welcomed smoothness but it doesn’t lack in brilliance and energy. The S08 doesn’t sound muted or dull, it is just pleasing and controlled, avoiding any sense of sharpness or brightness. The presentation lacks some air in the presence area and is not crystalline clear but you can still pick a lot of details and feel the vibe of a fast track.

The timbre and texture consistency is the strongest point of the LETSHUOER S08. The sound stays natural and weighty without becoming drier or thinner while climbing up the frequency ladder and remains free of any metallic artificiality or any changes in the decaying time.

The soundstage is medium wide with minimum to no depth while it has enough space and air to avoid sounding congested and messy. The positioning accuracy is good but in dense tracks you must stay really concentrated to discern from where each sound is coming from.

Brief comparisons

The S08 has the DNA of LETSHUOER’ “S” series of earphones and a quite similar tuning with the S15 and the S12 2024 to a lesser extent. However it is not as technically advanced or vivid sounding as its bigger brothers. Still, it is a good and affordable option to get in touch with the brand’s planar magnetic earphones, especially if you like a smoother sound profile.

Another similar and affordable, yet a little more expensive, set of earphones is the Hidizs MP143. This one is lacking the modular cable and a carrying case but it has swappable tuning filters. The LETSHUOER S08 is considerably more comfortable and lightweight than the MP143 which looks huge in comparison.

Their sound signature is quite similar except for the treble where the MP143 is definitely more energetic and extended but also a touch brighter and more aggressive. The MP143 is not as relaxed and smooth sounding but it has a bigger and more impressive soundstage as well as better overall technical performance.

LETSHUOER S08
Closer look

In the end

The LETSHUOER S08 has a very satisfying sonic performance, it pairs well with most sources and sounds good with all kinds of music, as long as the user doesn’t have too great expectations or preferences for specialized tunings.

Very well made, comfortable, lightweight and generously accessorized, the LETSHUOER S08 represents excellent value for money for those seeking an easy to listen, all-rounder set of earphones with planar magnetic drivers
