1MORE EVO

1MORE has become a reputable brand in the industry, known for their impressive range of products. Among their highly acclaimed offerings, the Triple Driver in-ear monitors have gained significant recognition. However, the brand has recently ventured into the realm of wireless earphones, introducing the EVO model equipped with active noise canceling technology.

The 1MORE EVO is a TWS Active Noise Canceling earphone that boasts a hybrid dual driver configuration and LDAC support. By combining a 10mm diamond-like-carbon dynamic driver with a balanced armature, the EVO delivers exceptional studio sound quality that satisfies the discerning ears of musicians and sound engineers. This remarkable audio experience is made possible by the precise tuning of the 4-time Grammy Award Winning sound engineer, Luca Bignardi, ensuring that you can enjoy music in its most natural and authentic form, just as the artist intended.

Equipped with 1MORE’s exclusive QuietMax active noise cancellation technology, the EVO is capable of providing an impressive 42dB noise cancellation depth. This allows you to immerse yourself in the tranquility and purity of your music, creating a truly captivating listening experience. Additionally, the EVO features 6 microphones, with three in each earbud, enhanced by an advanced A.I.-powered DNN algorithm. This intelligent system can effectively detect and eliminate background noise while amplifying human voices, resulting in unparalleled speech intelligibility.

The versatility of the 1MORE EVO is further highlighted by its ability to connect with two devices simultaneously. Seamlessly switch between music, online meetings, videos, and calls on both connected devices without any hassle. Moreover, the EVO is designed with an IPX4 water-resistant rating, making it suitable for use during exercise or on rainy days. With the 1MORE EVO, you can enjoy exceptional audio quality, advanced noise cancellation, and convenient connectivity, all in one remarkable package.

Design and fit

The 1MORE EVO faceplates are meticulously crafted using 3D ceramic panels, resulting in a flawlessly smooth surface that resembles a mirror. These faceplates not only exhibit exceptional craftsmanship but also effectively minimize electromagnetic signal interference.

In addition, the housing of the earbuds is constructed from a durable aluminum alloy that is resistant to scratches. The smooth matte black or white finish adds a touch of elegance to the overall design.

Despite their compact and lightweight nature, the earbuds boast an anatomically shaped and premium design that exudes sophistication. They bear resemblance to much pricier earphones, making them visually appealing.

Moreover, the earbuds provide a comfortable and discreet fit. The ear-shells securely stay in place, offering effective passive noise attenuation without causing any discomfort.

The charging case

The earphone’s charging case boasts a sleek and lightweight design, featuring a curved and elegant shape. Crafted from a durable aluminum alloy that resists scratches, it also offers a rubberized non-slip surface at the bottom and a premium matte finish in either black or white. While the inner compartment is made of plastic, it is prone to scratches. Additionally, the case includes a front-facing LED indicator to display the charging status, a USB type-C charging port at the back, and a pairing button located within the inner compartment.

Battery duration

Each earbud is equipped with a 48mAh battery, and the charging case houses a larger 450mAh battery. The charging case can be fully charged in two hours and provides approximately 3 additional charges for the earbuds.

The charging case supports Qi-Wireless Charger technology, allowing for convenient charging. With just 15 minutes of fast charging, the earbuds can offer around 3 hours of playback time when using the LDAC codec and the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) feature.

A full charge of the earbuds takes approximately one hour, extending the playback time to 4 hours. If you disable the ANC or opt for the plain SBC codec, the overall battery duration will be further increased.

Considering the compact size of both the earbuds and the charging case, the total battery duration should be regarded as satisfactory.

User interface and Bluetooth connectivity

The earbuds are equipped with capacitive touch control panels on the outside surface of each earpiece, allowing for easy control. However, due to their sensitivity, accidental actions may occur while trying to fit them into your ears.

The available actions include double tapping for playback and call management, triple tapping to activate voice assistant control, swiping up or down for volume control, and long pressing to activate ANC. Some limited customization options are also available through the 1MORE Music application.

Additionally, a smart playback feature automatically pauses the music when the earpieces are removed and resumes playback when they are placed back in your ears.

The Bluetooth connection is stable and reliable, with no dropouts, and it has a working distance of approximately 5 meters without any obstacles. When it comes to sound quality, the LDAC codec is the best option available. However, if your phone does not support LDAC, you will be limited to the plain SBC or AAC codecs, as aptX and aptX HD are not supported.

Please note that sound latency with games and movies was not specifically tested.

Active Noise Cancellation

There are a total of four ANC and two transparency modes that can be customized using the 1More Music application. The ANC modes include adaptive, mild, strong, and wind blocking, while the transparency modes consist of pass-through and voice enhancement. The strong mode of active noise cancellation is particularly impressive, effectively blocking out noises such as a running car engine, a functioning air-conditioner, or a noisy crowd, all while maintaining a satisfactory sound quality. Users have reported good call quality, with their voices sounding normal, if not slightly more bassy.Screenshot_2023-01-18-12-49-45-864-edit_com.onemore.life.jpg

The 1MORE Music application

The 1MORE Music app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. It offers 12 presets and 10 bands for an adjustable equalizer, allowing users to personalize their listening experience. Additionally, for a more customized audio experience, you can utilize the Sound ID app developed by Sonarworks. The app also enables OTA firmware updates and provides various customization options, as mentioned in the earlier sections of this review.

Listening impressions

The 1MORE EVO lacks a volume limiter, allowing it to reach high volumes without any noticeable distortion. To ensure optimal performance, the earbuds underwent an 11-hour burn-in process using the “smart burn in” feature found in the 1MORE Music application.

Remarkably, the overall sound quality of these TWS earphones is excellent, especially considering their affordable price. The LDAC codec effectively minimizes transmission losses over Bluetooth, resulting in a mildly V-shaped sound signature with emphasized bass, clear mids, and slightly forward upper treble.

While the bass may appear slightly accentuated, it remains well-defined without overpowering the mids or causing any bleeding. The sub-bass extension is suitable for bass-heavy tracks, and the technicalities of the earbuds meet the demands of more intricate music.

This tuning offers a fun and enjoyable listening experience, with occasional tonal inaccuracies that may not bother those seeking a more reference sound. The bass is full-bodied, punchy, and well-controlled, providing impactful and dynamic performance with precise timing.

Although the mid-range is slightly recessed compared to the bass and highs, it still maintains a present, crystal-clear, and articulate sound with natural timbre and satisfactory resolution. Voices are not overly projected, but they receive the necessary attention and blend seamlessly with the other instruments, creating a realistic listening experience.

In a rendition of Handel’s oratorio Semele, the famous duet “You’ve undone me” was beautifully sung, showcasing the interplay between the two voices, emotional intensity, and harmonic richness.

The treble exhibits an impressive extension, characterized by its luminosity, crystalline clarity, and exceptional detail retrieval. Importantly, it maintains a balanced presentation without becoming excessively bright or harsh. Instead, it offers a controlled and forgiving nature, allowing for prolonged listening sessions without the risk of fatigue.

While the upper range may possess a hint of artificiality and slight digital glare, the overall driver implementation is commendable, resulting in a cohesive tonal and textural experience without compromising the richness of the mid and high frequencies.

In terms of soundstage, the 1MORE EVO excels in its category, offering an open and spacious presentation that enhances clarity and provides satisfying imaging. While it may not deliver laser-sharp positioning or layers of depth and holography, it remains capable of handling complex musical compositions without succumbing to congestion or instrumental suffocation.

In the end

The 1MORE EVO, priced at $169.99, is a delightful surprise and an incredible deal in the realm of TWS earphones. Its sound performance is exceptional, boasting a well-balanced tuning that is both enjoyable and precise, complemented by impressive technical capabilities.

Moreover, its lightweight and comfortable design, coupled with its superb build quality, make it a standout choice. Additionally, the accompanying application offers a plethora of sound customization options, further enhancing the overall experience.

Furthermore, the inclusion of ANC, (unlike the FiiO FW3 or FW5 ) while not setting any performance records, manages to be quite effective without significantly compromising the sound quality.

All these factors combined make the EVO a clear winner and an immediate recommendation for those seeking a budget-friendly ANC TWS option with outstanding sound quality.
