Today’s review is about the LETSHUOER D02, an entry-level earphone that is available both with a regular or a type-C cable so you can use it straight out of your phone.

The review sample was kindly provided free of charge in exchange for an honest review. I didn’t receive monetary or any other kind of compensation and I don’t use affiliate links.

The price of the LETSHUOER D02 is $26.99 or $29.99 with the type-C cable, and you can buy it directly from LETSHUOER’s online shop.

If you are not yet familiar with the LETSHUOER, I recommend reading some of our previous reviews to become acquainted with the company and learn more about its history and product lineup.

LETSHUOER D02

The D02 is a single dynamic driver in-ear monitor that features LETSHUOER’s proprietary 11mm dual magnetic circuit and dual chamber dynamic driver. It is an affordable earphone made to fulfill various everyday tasks, like movie watching, gaming, communication and music listening.

Design and Appearance

The D02 has a minimalistic industrial design with a compact cylindrical housing. Both the polycarbonate shell and the nozzle are covered with an aluminum alloy outer surface that enhances durability and adds a touch of premium elegance.

The visual highlight of the D02 is its aluminum alloy faceplate that has a radial pattern resembling a cut gem or something like that. The D02 is a stylish and beautiful looking earphone that is available in two colors to choose from, berry and aqua.

Wearing Experience

Thanks to its classic bullet-like shape and the compact sized shells, the LETSHUOER D02 is exceptionally comfortable to wear, even for hours long, and offers solid passive noise attenuation.

The nozzle has an angled design that helps a lot to achieve a stable and secure fit without exerting much pressure into the ear. At 4g per piece, the weight is also low and adds to the excellent wearing experience, making the D02 ideal for everyday use.

As with all earphones, fit can vary significantly from person to person and largely depends on ear anatomy, so your experience may differ. Personally, I found the D02 to be one of the most comfortable earphones I have ever used.

USB type-C cable

Cable and Accessories

The D02 comes packaged in a cylindrical carrying case with a screw-on lid. The package also includes a detachable 2-pin cable and two sets of ear tips in three sizes each.

You can order the D02 either with a standard 3.5mm cable or a USB Type-C cable featuring a built-in DAC and an in-line microphone for voice calls.

The cable is made from silver-plated copper in a two-strand design. It features aluminum housings for the plug and splitter, while the 2-pin connectors are made of plastic. The cable is relatively thin, soft, and lightweight, with moderate microphonics but it can get easily tangled.

The USB Type-C Version

The cable of the USB version is equipped with an in-line MEMS microphone and an angled type-C plug that houses a built-in DAC that can handle sampling rates up to 32Bit/384KHz PCM. The plug is compact sized and long enough to fit into phones without the need to remove their protective case.

The cable is plug ’n play with most platforms, like Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux and HarmonyOS.

The sound is clean and transparent without any background noise but the output power is limited, so the D02 can’t get as loud as with a separate DAC. Still, this is a handy solution for phones without a 3.5mm jack and for people that don’t like the extra bulk and weight of a USB DAC dongle.

Accessories

Sensitivity and Associated Equipment

With an impedance of 26Ω and a sensitivity rating of 108dB SPL/mW, the LETSHUOER D02 is easy to drive and doesn’t pick much source noise. It can go loud and reach its full dynamic potential from portable USB DAC dongles, like the LETSHUOER DT03 and the ddHiFi TC44Pro E3.

Listening Evaluation

Most entry-level earphones designed for everyday use are usually tuned with emphasized bass and treble to sound more spectacular out of the box and to help compensate for the loud surrounding noise. So, I was genuinely surprised with the tuning of the LETSHUOER D02 that is considerably more neutral and balanced than I was expecting for such an earphone.

The low-end is extended enough to cover the first octave but it is relatively shy and not as pronounced. Electronic music can sound fun but most chances are that bass lovers will find the D02 as falling a little short for their expectations. That said, the bass quantity is enough for most use cases with the extra benefit that it does not dominate the higher frequencies.

The bass follows a relatively flat tuning up to the mid-range, without the popular mid-bass hump that plagues most entry-level earphones. The D02 is surprisingly suitable for critical listening as it has satisfying tonal precision and an uncolored low-end response. Not only are all instruments allowed to sound close enough to reality but there are also sufficient amounts of clarity and layering not usually found in similar affordable earphones.

The technical performance is really good for the price, the driver is quite fast, the bass is tight and controlled without much reverb. It is punchy enough but not too visceral or weighty and the textures are lean and dry. The bass of D02 might lack in physical power but it has left me positively surprised because it is able to follow fast paced music without losing composure or timing.

(As is usually the case with all earphones, achieving a proper fit and seal is essential to obtain full bass extension)

More Listening Impressions

The tuning of the mids is focused on the upper mid-range but it is not that much emphasized to make it sound sibilant or piercing. Upper overtones are certainly more prominent but still the tonal balance is convincing enough and does not make the D02 sound out of tune.

Clarity and transparency are fantastic for the category but the textures are not lush enough as they are dry and fall short in overall refinement. The D02 can sound quite expressive and melodic with the right source – especially with mid-centric tunes – but it struggles to capture the full harmonic intensity and the colorful micro-gradients of the music.

The treble is extended, sparkling and brilliant enough to sound lively and airy without crossing the border to become piercing and sharp. Clarity is good but resolution is rather average and the timbre is not without some metallic artificiality. The textures are not that grainy but not too polished either and they lack the weight needed to make high pitched instruments sound realistic enough. Still, the high frequencies play well and are not disjointed, the benefit of using a single dynamic driver instead of a multi-driver set-up.

The soundstage is not especially open and wide, as all the action takes place at the center of the listener’s head rather than expanding to its left and the right sides. However, stereo perception is solid and imaging is precise, as far as the limited soundstage can allow. The D02 doesn’t sound too claustrophobic but it cannot convince the listener with the size and the proportions of its soundstage.

LETSHUOER D02
Like a gem

In the End

Despite some minor shortcomings, the sonic performance of the LETSHUOER D02 is very good for the category and its intended use. It is a well made and comfortable earphone that is suitable for leisure music listening, various multimedia applications and voice calls.

It also has the advantage of featuring a more reference tuning than most of the competition, making it a compelling option for those who prefer a more balanced and neutral sound signature.
