Today’s review is about the Hidizs My LIN, a dual driver in-ear monitor that is a retuned version of Hidizs’s MS2 Pro

The Hidizs My LIN was kindly provided free of charge in exchange for an honest review. I didn’t receive monetary or any other kind of compensation and I don’t use affiliate links.

The Hidizs My LIN is currently priced at $89 and can be ordered from Hidizs’s online shop. The regular price after the promotion ends, it is going to be $129.

The latest addition to Hidiz’s extensive catalog is a dual-driver earphone with the distinctive name, My LIN. There is a fictional character behind the name with its own backstory but exploring it in detail falls outside the scope of this review. Hidizs My LIN – Technical Overview

The Hidizs My LIN is a dual-driver earphone, featuring a 10.2mm dual-cavity dynamic driver together with a custom-made Silvercore balanced armature driver. The dynamic driver is equipped with a PU+PEEK diaphragm with nano-DLC coating, while a N52 dual-magnetic circuit enhances technical performance, improving control and speed.

My LIN is essentially a retuned version of Hidizs’s MS2 Pro, an affordable dual driver in-ear monitor known for its fun sound signature that focuses on bass impact and lively treble.

The Tuning Differences Between My LIN and MS2 Pro

Hidizs informs us that compared to the MS2 Pro, My LIN delivers a deeper, more enveloping bass, also maintaining clarity without overwhelming the sound. It also softens the upper midrange for a more balanced, relaxed listening experience, ideal for vocal-focused genres, while it also smoothens treble response for a more relaxed listening experience.

You can check the tuning differences in detail by browsing the following chart, as provided by Hidizs.

Pneumatic Sound Tuning Filters

Just like the MS2 Pro, My LIN is designed with interchangeable pneumatic sound tuning filters that screw onto the nozzles of the earphone.

There are three filters, the red one offers the most balanced sound, the black enhances the lower frequencies and the crystal clear the treble. The filters can be combined with two types of silicone ear tips (bass focused and balanced) to achieve up to six personalized tunings.

Design and Wearing Experience

The shells of Hidizs My LIN share the exact same shape and design as those of the MS2 Pro and are also made from ZA12 zinc alloy that is harder than aluminum. The only cosmetic difference between the two is on the faceplates which are now made from carbon fiber instead of the textured leatherette material used on the MS2 Pro.

These newly designed faceplates offer various flickering effects and greater visual depth under different lighting angles, but personally, I prefer the cleaner and more minimalistic appearance of the MS2 Pro, which is also less prone to fingerprint smudges.

Nothing has changed regarding wearing comfort, My LIN shells weigh 13g each and are really comfortable to wear. The fit is stable and secure but a little shallow so you might end up using ear tips a size larger than you normally do. Each shell is equipped with a venting grid that helps relieve pressure but doesn’t affect noise attenuation which is very satisfying.

Stock Cable

Hidizs My LIN is equipped with a high quality, 2-pin detachable cable that is more robust and offers better handling experience in comparison to the one supplied with the MS2 Pro.

It is a 1.2m long cable, made from high-purity silver plated OFC copper twisted pair conductors, that doesn’t get too tangled and keeps friction noise low. It is not modular but you have the option to order it with either a 4.4mm or 3.5mm plug.

Accessories

As a special edition model, My LIN comes equipped with unique accessories that younger listeners will appreciate, though they might feel rather unnecessary to older users like myself.

These extra accessories are 9 stickers of various My LIN Emojis, a special edition acrylic standee and a printed cleaning cloth, both featuring My LIN character.

The package also contains the detachable cable, three pairs of sound tuning filters, six pairs of silicone ear tips in two different types and a carrying pouch.

Sensitivity

Engineered with a low 17Ω impedance and 111dB of sensitivity, My LIN is easy to drive and suitable for everyday use with portable USB DAC dongles, like the Hidizs S8 Pro or the AP80 PRO MAX DAP if you don’t like the extra clutter under your phone.

Listening evaluation

Hidizs MS2 Pro Sound Signature

For readers that are not familiar or have not read the Hidizs MS2 Pro review, let’s remember that it is an earphone that features a fun and bass focused tuning that adheres to the H-2019 target curve, prioritizing musical enjoyment over strict tonal accuracy.

The sound is dominated by powerful, weighty and punchy bass that is quite controlled and well defined, while the articulate mid-range and the smooth yet lively treble ensure good balance across the whole frequency range.

The overall sonic presentation is particularly suitable for EDM, pop and electronic but it wouldn’t be my first choice for listening to classical or acoustic music.

With the AP80 PRO MAX
Hidizs My LIN Sound Signature

My LIN’s overall tuning is also inspired by the H-2019 target curve, but with some differences in comparison to the MS2 Pro.

The most notable one is that the sub-bass extension is much improved so My LIN can sound significantly more powerful and imposing on the first and second octaves but without overwhelming the mix. Compared to the MS2 Pro, it feels like Hidizs has added a subwoofer inside, resulting in an even more engaging and thundering presentation for EDM and other bass-driven music.

The Low-end

The bass retains the same level of generous emphasis that aims for genuine fun and excitement rather than strict tonal accuracy. Just like the MS2 Pro, the low-end of My LIN is “out-of-tune” by reference standards and not particularly suitable for critical listening. However, it is exceptionally enjoyable and ideal for movie watching or gaming where every blast sounds astonishingly real.

Ear tips play a significant role in the frequency response of the low-end, the white ones offer a far more neutral and tonally accurate tuning, making My LIN a bit more suitable for listening to classical music. You can also use the treble tuning filters to achieve even better tonal balance without sacrificing sub-bass extension. That said, there is a take away as textures become significantly leaner and drier in comparison to the black ear tips.

Another notable difference in comparison to the MS2 Pro is that My LIN’s bass is a touch more controlled, a bit firmer and faster with better layering and definition, all while remaining powerful and weighty. At this point it should be noted that the black ear tips sound more muffled and boomy in comparison to the clear ones but also a bit fuller with heavier textures.

The Mids and the Treble

My LIN shifts the focus from the upper to the center mid-range, sounding smoother and more balanced than the MS2 Pro but a bit less energetic. The timbre is natural and realistic enough, voices and instruments that dwell in the mids sound organic and engaging with reduced sharpness. The textures are full bodied and lush, yet clean and articulate enough. My LIN is a rich and expressive sounding earphone that can connect the listener with the music, without detracting its attention from the mids despite its bass emphasized tuning.

The treble is also smoothed out in comparison to the MS2 Pro without losing much in airiness and clarity. The sonic presentation is energetic and brilliant enough to counterbalance the prominent low-end, however My LIN is less sparkling and a bit darker sounding than the MS2 Pro. The overall resolution is more or less on the same level, the MS2 Pro is more clean and detailed but not as refined and natural as My LIN. Still, there is a slight metallic artificiality to the timbre, so certain instruments may not sound entirely convincing.

The Soundstage

The soundstage is wide, spacious and well organized with good imaging but very limited depth. Not bad for the intended use though, as My LIN is not intended for critical listening of large scale symphonic and choral music where these details matter a lot. For everyday, casual music listening, it gets the job well done and the music doesn’t feel buried inside your head.

Fine Tuning with the Filters

You can use the pneumatic filters to achieve a personalized tuning without altering the base sonic character of My LIN.

The white filters slightly attenuate the bass and mildly boost the upper mid-range together with some parts of the treble, making My LIN sound closer to the MS2 Pro. These filters make it a little bit more accurate on the bass and energetic on the higher frequencies but also a little sharper and potentially more fatiguing than the red ones.

The black filters don’t exactly boost the bass, but they do give the My LIN a bassier and less fatiguing sonic presentation by taming the upper mid-range, albeit at the expense of some sparkle and brilliance.

In the End

The Hidizs My LIN is not necessarily superior to the MS2 Pro, but rather differently tuned to offer its own distinct sonic character and appeal to listeners who prefer an even more relaxed and bass-focused tuning.

Seen from a broader perspective, the tuning of the My LIN is just another variation of the H-2019 target curve that doesn’t necessarily bring anything new to the table.

However, it is a well made and comfortable earphone that comes generously accessorized for the price and delivers an exceptionally engaging sound for everyday music listening.

Critical audiophiles may steer away, but the younger audience is likely to adore Miss LIN and her lively personality.
