Simgot EA1000 Review

Simgot is a premier manufacturer of earphones with a focus on delivering superior audio fidelity, cutting-edge design, and unparalleled user experience. Their earphones are known and well regarded by many audiophiles. You can read all my previous Simgot reviews here.

The Simgot EA1000 is an upgraded version of the Simgot EA2000 so while the latter is the company’s flagship model, the former utilizes more recent, cutting-edge technology. Simgot has code-named the EA1000 as “Fermat’s Last Theorem”, you can read the philosophy behind this decision here.

Technical highlights

The EA1000 has a unique configuration by combining a 10mm dynamic driver (DD) with a passive radiator (PR). This configuration, derived from the flagship EA2000 and further optimized, introduces the second-generation DMDC™ dynamic driver that revolutionizes earphone design. Unlike traditional single-magnetic circuitry, the DMDC™ dynamic driver incorporates both inner and outer magnetic circuits, resulting in an unparalleled magnetic flux.

At the core of the EA1000 lies the remarkable SDPGD™ Technology, which has been developed by Simgot over a span of three years. This technology features a diaphragm with exceptional characteristics, including high rigidity, exceptional hardness, lightweight construction, and the perfect blend of elasticity required for deep bass. The Purple-Gold Diaphragm, unlike conventional titanium or beryllium diaphragms, undergoes a meticulous process involving multiple layers of transparent, custom-targeted vacuum high-temperature sputtering on a specialized base film.

The nozzles

Detachable nozzles

The Simgot EA1000 is equipped with a threaded, interchangeable nozzle design that allows fine tuning . The package includes three nozzles – one brass and two stainless steel, each designed with its own distinct tuning approach.

The first detachable nozzle with the silver-steel tube & red silicone ring adheres to the popular H-2019 target curve. Simgot informs us that this is a tuning more suitable for interpreting different music types and sound source quality, and can also meet the needs of professional musicians for recording and mixing.

The Simgot Golden 2023 introduces a new target curve that enhances the balance of the three frequency ranges, resolution, human voice, and high-frequency air. The second detachable nozzle, featuring a golden-copper tube and white silicone ring, is designed to adhere to this target curve. It provides a better interpretation of live music, classical, and other genres.

On the other hand, the Simgot classic target curve is maintained by the third detachable nozzle. This nozzle has a silver-steel tube and black silicone ring. It ensures accurate positioning and clear image while emphasizing the female voice. The dimension of three-frequency balance is also taken into consideration for optimal performance.

Appearance and fit

Using advanced CNC engraving technology and high-density alloy metal, a durable all-metal body is crafted through a series of meticulous processes. The chamber’s unique uneven surface effectively dampens standing waves, contributing to enhanced audio performance. Complementing each other perfectly, the highly transparent crystal panel and mirror plating process add a touch of elegance and brilliance. With its striking aesthetics, the Simgot EA1000 effortlessly blends luxury and minimalistic design. Featuring exceptional build quality and finish, this earphone is one of the finest I have ever tested. While the polished metal surfaces and glass faceplates may attract fingerprints, this minor flaw is a small price to pay for its stunning appearance.

The metallic ear-shells may not be that lightweight, as they weigh 11g each, but they have a compact and ergonomic design that conforms to the natural shape of the ear. When it comes to wearing them, the EA1000 provides an exceptionally comfortable experience, allowing you to wear them for hours without experiencing any annoyance or discomfort.

The cable

Cable and accessories

The EA1000 is equipped with a 0.78mm 2-pin detachable cable crafted from high-purity silver-plated OFC wire using the Litz twisting process. This cable is excellently constructed, lightweight, tangle-resistant, and produces minimal microphonic noise. However, my sole concern is the absence of interchangeable plugs and the unavailability of a 4.4mm plug option. A cable with only a single-ended 3.5mm plug at this price range seems outdated, especially considering the inclusion of balanced outputs in most audio sources.

The package includes a high quality and luxurious carrying case, a metal plate that houses the three pairs of sound tubes, six pairs of silicone ear-tips, and spare filter rings. However, it is worth noting that all the provided ear-tips are of the same kind, limiting the possibility of fine-tuning. The addition of various types of ear-tips would greatly enhance the overall value of the package.

Power requirements and associated gear

The Simgot EA1000 has an impedance rating of 16Ω and a sensitivity of 127dB/V, making it highly efficient to drive. However, it is slightly sensitive to source noise, so it is advisable to pair it with high-quality equipment, like the iBasso DX260 and Cayin RU7 that i used along with a Lavricables aftermarket balanced cable. Prior to the listening test, the Simgot EA1000 underwent a burn-in period of approximately 100 hours.

Listening impressions

The EA1000 offers a well-balanced tuning and exceptional flexibility, provided by its three detachable nozzles that allow for precise sound adjustments. With a mildly V-shaped sound signature, users can adjust the low-end and treble intensity with the interchangeable nozzles, while the mid-range retains its original quality.

The red nozzle offers excellent bass extension, however, it lacks emphasis in the upper mid-range and treble. Consequently, it produces a darker and warmer sound compared to the other options. This tuning is quite close to the Harman target, maintaining a balanced sub-bass and mid-bass without exaggeration. Therefore, the EA1000 is suitable for enjoying a wide range of music genres, making it a versatile option with high-quality bass that doesn’t overpower the overall sound. On the other hand, the remaining two nozzles slightly reduce the lower bass, resulting in a more neutral sound profile. This makes them a better choice for listening to classical music or any application that requires better tonal accuracy.

Regardless of the sound tube employed, the EA1000 delivers bass of exceptional quality. It is fast, tight, and controlled, with superb definition and impressive layering, exceeding all expectations. While the textures may not be as rich and visceral, they are not dry or lean either. Instead, they possess a remarkable physicality and impressive clarity. Although the bass may not be that weighty, it still makes a significant impact, offering wide dynamic contrasts and natural reverb without any noticeable echo.

More listening impressions

The mid-range exhibits exceptional clarity and transparency, it has strong presence without an excessive emphasis on the upper mid-range, particularly when utilizing the red nozzle. The timbre is remarkably natural and organic, allowing the EA1000 to excel in accurately reproducing both vocals and instruments with plenty of harmonic contrast and rich overtones. For those who appreciate female voices, the other two nozzles provide a touch of upper mid-range spice and emphasis, striking a perfect balance without veering into harshness or causing listener fatigue. The EA1000 delivers a truly musical and captivating experience, immersing listeners in a vivid and lifelike sonic landscape that is both addictive and emotionally stirring, regardless of the genre of music being enjoyed.

The high frequencies are vibrant and ethereal, radiant and transparent with excellent extension across the board. The red nozzle provides a smoother sound, whereas the black nozzle delivers the most dazzling and brilliant performance. The gold nozzle reduces the intensity of the high frequencies while highlighting the upper mid-range, resulting in enhanced prominence in this specific range. Regardless of the tube employed, the EA1000 is a finely tuned earphone that achieves a lively, intricate, and crystal-clear sound without veering into excessive brightness or causing listener fatigue.

The EA1000 offers exceptional resolution and refinement, showcasing consistent tonal and textural coherence across all frequencies. This kind of magic is achieved through the use of a high-quality single dynamic driver. Whether it’s the deep bass or the soaring highs, each note is delivered with equal weight and impact. The expansive soundstage provides ample breathing room for the performers, with precise left-to-right positioning. While the depth layering may not be top-tier, the EA1000’s grand and immersive sound is well-suited for large scale symphonic and choral compositions.

Vs the FiiO FD5

The FiiO FD5 is a popular choice for a single dynamic driver earphone that follows the Harman target curve in its tuning style. It features a more aggressive V-shaped tuning compared to the EA1000, with enhanced sub-bass extension and more prominent mid-bass. This results in a less neutral and accurate sound signature. The FD5 is also brighter and has a safer upper mid-range tuning. By using the spare, smaller nozzle, you can slightly reduce the treble and achieve a warmer, more bass-focused sound.

Both earphones offer excellent resolution, but the EA1000 is considered the more refined and transparent option. The FD5 delivers a more visceral and weighty low-end, although it lacks the definition and control found in the EA1000. While both earphones provide an open and spacious soundstage, the EA1000 offers slightly better imaging and more air around the performers. In conclusion, the FiiO FD5 has a more casual and bass-focused tuning, while the EA1000 is better suited for critical listening or as well-rounded option.

The Fermat’s theorem

In the end

The Simgot EA1000 stands out as the brand’s finest earphone to date, blending exceptional sonic performance with competitive technicalities, sleek design, comfortable fit, and impeccable craftsmanship. Its three tuning nozzles allow for customized sound adjustments, making it a versatile choice. The Simgot EA1000 is undeniably impressive, making it an easy recommendation and a fantastic deal.
